Addis Ababa, August 24, 2022 (FBC) – United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has pledged a 5.1 million USD humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and drought in several parts of Ethiopia.
The assistance has been announced by UNICEF Deputy Director Jane Muita who met with Women and Social Affairs Minister of Ethiopia, Ergoge Tesfaye in Addis Ababa.
The two discussed ways of reinforcing institutional capacity, promoting social protection projects and safeguarding rights of children.
Ergoge praised UNICEF for its humanitarian support and mental health services to people affected by the conflict, calling for continued assistance to war affected people in Afar and Amhara Regions, and drought affected communities in Oromia and Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Regions.
Responding to the request forwarded by the Minister, Jane Muita affirmed UNICEF’s commitment to deliver 5.1 million USD support to those affected by the manmade and natural disasters in the aforementioned parts of Ethiopia.
