Addis Ababa, November 24, 2022 (FBC) – The Ethiopian government has facilitated the necessary conditions for the development of the public and private sectors in the country, said Fitsum Arega, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ethiopia to Canada.

An international infrastructure development investment conference was held in Toronto, Canada, where Canadian companies that have invested in public and private sector joint infrastructure development and representatives of the public and private sectors of guest countries participated.

Ambassador Fitsum said that the Ethiopian government has facilitated the necessary conditions for the expansion of Public-Private Partnership (PPP) in Ethiopia.

The Ambassador explained that the legislation governing the sector, the organization of a working unit under the Ministry of Finance, and the launching of tenders for local and foreign companies to participate.

Therefore, the ambassador called upon interested companies to follow the latest information.

He said that even in countries like Canada that do not have much of a government budget deficit, they are continuously working with the private sector to develop a high level of infrastructure in order to continuously grow their economy.

On the other hand, countries such as Ethiopia, which are expected to grow fast in urban areas and industries, cannot ensure rapid growth through domestic taxes and foreign loans, so they have realized that they should strengthen public-private partnership (PPP) more than developed countries like Canada.

He recommended Ethiopians living abroad to closely follow the investment opportunities and developments of opportunities by identifying feasible companies that can be jointly developed in the sector in Ethiopia.
