Addis Ababa, August 20, 2022 (FBC) – The Ethiopian government has reiterated its commitment to maintain peace and stability. The Minister of Government Communication Services, Leges Tulu (PhD), in a press briefing, said that the government is trying to resolve the situation in the northern part of the country peacefully.

The Minister stated that the government has established a peace committee which recently submitted a proposal to the African Union; the government firmly believes that the peace effort should be conducted under the auspices of the African Union.

On the other hand, he also confirmed that TPLF is proving that it is not ready for peace, accusing the terrorist group of preparing for another war, by recalling recent statements by Getachew Reda and the WHO chief, Tedros Adhanom, who lack desire and integrity to the efforts and contradict the steps towards peace.

The Minister also stressed that the federal government will always welcome peace efforts with open arms, as long as there is no difficult situation, and mentioned that relative peace is being achieved following measures by the Government.

He pointed out that the achievements recorded in destroying irregular forces and terrorist groups who attempted to instigate further problems on national security. 

Plans of al-Shabaab and Shene terrorist groups to make Ethiopia a center of violence have been foiled by ENDF, the air force, and in collaboration with the Somali region security forces; the action taken against these groups is an action that delighted Ethiopians and friends, added the Minister.

He also pointed out that concerted action is being taken against the Shene terrorist group in various areas, and leaders of the terrorist group are also being neutrilized, the remaining are surrendering and being captured.

He also stated that government organizations have resumed normal services in those places and displaced citizens are returning to their villages.
