Addis Ababa, November 23, 2022 (FBC) – The Ethiopian Airlines is preparing to resume regular flights to Tigray region that have been suspended due to the conflict, the CEO of the airline confirmed.

Mesfin Tasew, the CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, stated that preparations are underway to resume regular flights to Tigray region following the peace agreement reached between the Ethiopian government and TPLF.

He recalled that there were several daily flights to the area before the conflict, but after the incident, the flights were suspended.

Mesfin explained that the peace accord will be of great importance in accelerating the access of humanitarian supplies in beyond the normal flight services that the airline has been providing.

The CEO mentioned that among the airports in the region, Mekele and Shire airports are in good condition and are convenient to resume flights.

Axum Airport was damaged in the conflict and needs to be renovated to make it accessible for flights.

Following the peace agreement reached in Pretoria, South Africa, the Ethiopian government has stated that it is committed to work with determination to make humanitarian aid widely accessible to the Tigray region, ENA’s report recalled.
